Rachelle Potier
photographer and blogger
Artistic, passionate, and meticulous are a few words others use to describe me. I am a less-than-30-year-old Torontonian by choice with an immense love for travel, photography, and food – cooking it and eating it.
Photography began as a hobby, became a profession, evolved into education, and continued as a passion. Photography District is now the result of years of experiencing and learning all things photography.
I received my first DSLR camera as a gift when I was a teenager in 2008. After a long quest to find Mr. Right, I landed on a Nikon D90 with an 18-200mm zoom lens: a well-rounded, do-it-all combination. That same day, I hit the streets. In 2009, I landed a co-op job as an event photographer for a magazine, finally using my camera productively. In 2010, I entered art school where I began my more formal photography education with a black and white 35mm film camera with negatives that I developed and printed manually. Printing in a dark room was my new favourite activity.
Seeking financial stability, I entered culinary school in 2012 while continuing with photography as a hobby and a passion, enjoyed exclusively by friends, family, and myself.
Fast forward to now.
After several traveling years perusing the streets of Toronto, Paris, New York, Lyon, New Orleans, and so forth, I have taken more college photography courses and spent hours refining my post processing skills.
I am ready.
I created the Photography District website and blog to share my unique perspective with you through photography and writing. My mission is to provide information and inspiration to aspiring photographers and photography enthusiasts.
